Will my South African teaching qualification be recognised?
Many South African teaching qualifications may be suitable for assessment, however every case is different and depends on factors such as qualifications, teaching practice and work history.
In most cases, teachers seeking Australian migration pathways will need a recognised teaching qualification such as a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), PGCE or equivalent teaching degree. Short teaching courses such as TEFL, TESOL and similar certifications are generally not treated as equivalent teaching qualifications on their own.

- Assesses Early Childhood (Pre-Primary School) Teacher qualifications for migration purposes.
Primary & Secondary Teachers
AITSL
- Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership
- Assesses many Primary and Secondary Teacher qualifications for migration purposes.
Important
An assessment is separate from teacher registration and does not automatically give you the right to teach in Australia. Teacher registration is managed separately by each state and territory
Do I need teaching practice experience?
Many Australian teaching assessments consider both qualifications and supervised teaching practice completed as part of your studies. Documents relating to practical teaching experience can be an important part of the assessment process.
