Overview of Accepted English Tests

To meet Australia’s visa requirements, candidates must demonstrate English language proficiency. These are the tests accepted by Australian immigration authorities:

IELTS: Typically, a score of 6.0 or above in each band (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking) 

Some professions and visa categories may require higher scores. 

PTE Academic: Provides a scaled score from 10 to 90, with most visas requiring a score of 50 or above in each component. 

Some professions and visa categories may require higher scores. 

OET: Is graded from A to E, with a ‘B’ grade or higher required for visa purposes.

Partners' English Requirements (PR Visas)

If you're applying for a permanent residency visa, your partner may also need to demonstrate their English proficiency. For PR visas, such as subclass 189, 190, or 491, partners can provide proof of English skills through an accepted test or show that they meet the exemptions.

Validity Period of English Tests
